Broad rally, big sellers. SPY closed at 774.79, above Friday's 772.65 high, as 61% of stocks rose and oil fell 2.2%. Large orders sold a net $2.2B of SPY into it, triple the 2:30 PM figure; only SPCX passed the 10:00 breakout test.
Large orders have now sold SPY two days running, about $3.7B combined, while TLT fell again on the 74 services-prices print. A close back under 772.65 would show the breakout ran on small money.
SPY 772.65, Friday's high, decides it: holding above it with only 30% of stocks over their 40-day average usually stretches an oversold bounce into a second and third day. A close below opens 767.72, the 10-day average, then 766.43, the 21-day. Tuesday's 1:00 PM 3-year auction (last 4.474%) is the dated test: weak demand would lift rates and hit the rally where big orders are already selling.
Friday's 29,000-job payroll print, against 90,000 expected with unemployment up to 4.2%, set the rate-cut bid that carried stocks all day. Bonds did not buy it: ISM services came in at 54.9 against 55 but prices paid jumped to 74 from 72.6, and TLT closed down 0.46%. The front end still leans toward cuts, with the 6-month bill auction clearing at 4.165% versus 4.285% last time. Oil was the tailwind, USO −2.2%, while VIX rose 1.6% to 15.56 on a green day and GLD slipped 0.17%. Rising volatility with falling gold and oil points at rates, not a crash, as the risk the market is watching.
• SPCX — multiple analysts published supportive notes — up 7.6% to 170.94 on $22.0B traded, the second-biggest stock of the day.

• PTC — Schneider Electric is buying it for $22.6 billion — up 33.6% on $5.7B, about nine times normal volume.
• OPCH — the Financial Times reports McKesson and CD&R are near a $5B-plus deal for it — up 21.1% after the bell.

Leading: Materials +1.41%, Communication Services +1.16%, Energy +1.06%, Financials +0.75%, Health Care +0.72%, Technology +0.64%, Consumer Staples +0.53%, Consumer Discretionary +0.35%, Utilities +0.30%
Lagging: Real Estate -0.12%, Industrials -0.46%
Energy took the most money, about $1.9 billion, and rose 1.06% even with oil down 2.2%, so buyers are paying for producers, not the commodity. Financials drew about $1.5 billion on the Brazil bank run, and utilities a surprising $1.5 billion, a defensive bid inside a risk-on day. Materials led by percentage at +1.41% on only $660 million, so the percentage leader was not where the money went; industrials lost about $1.1 billion despite RXO. NVDA was the single biggest stock at $28.3 billion traded, ahead of SPCX at $22.0 billion and TSLA at $15.2 billion. Large orders sold a net $2.2 billion of SPY after $1.5 billion on Friday, while QQQ large orders were flat.
After the bell only five stocks cleared the 4% floor, led by OPCH +21.1% on the Financial Times report of a $5B-plus buyout; the remaining gainer slots hold the regular session's biggest winners. Those were deals and Brazil: PTC +33.6% on Schneider's $22.6B bid, RXO +20.7% on a $5.8B deal and NU +13.7% on the election. The losers board is small-cap speculation unwinding, with XRPN −26.7% and SDEV another −6.2%. No earnings release moved a stock after hours: AEHR and BETA are not on the board.
CBRS has the strongest setup, +9.3% on about twice normal volume after Sam Altman called Cerebras a close partner, though it is still 53% below its high. MRNA (+7.0%, top-1% strength) runs into its October 9 Nasdaq-100 entry, and SPCX pulled $22.0B through the tape. CTVA traded eight times its normal volume but is the weakest stock in the market after its spin-off.
No changes since the 8:25 AM pre-market read: none of its names had levels to hit or break.
Friday's 29,000-job payrolls, a third of what was expected, set up a rate-cut gap this morning: SPY is up 0.70% near 769, QQQ 0.77% near 748 and IWM leads at +1.09%. SPY is back above all of its 10-, 21- and 50-day averages (766.14, 765.60, 761.61), but those three sit within 5 points of each other, so the index has been flat for weeks. QQQ is 2.4% above its 21-day average at 731.15, the cleaner uptrend. Oil falling 3% on USO adds a second tailwind for rates.
Risk-on sectors take the gap: consumer discretionary +1.09% and technology +0.94% lead, while energy is the only big group being sold, with about $2.9M of pre-market money flowing out as oil drops. NVDA remains the board's biggest name at $31.8B traded, and chip leverage via SOXL drew $10.3B. Brazil is the surprise bid, with MELI, XP and NU all up sharply on election news. Large orders, though, sold a net $1.5B of SPY and $1.2B of QQQ on Friday, so the opening buyers are not the same money that left.
The internals are better than the index: 199 stocks are up 4%+ against 95 down and advancers lead about 3 to 2, yet only 30% of stocks sit above their 40-day average. That oversold reading usually produces multi-day bounces once breadth like this shows up. VIX at 15.40 and a soft GLD say nobody is hedging, while TLT slipping says bonds have not signed off on the rate-cut story. A move with this breadth but no bond confirmation tends to hold only if the 10:00 AM services data backs it.
Since the pre-market read: SPCX hit its buy level at 10:02; COHR is 3.3% away below its 10:00 high; MDT is 1.1% above its dip level.
The 10:00 AM services survey turned the morning: prices paid jumped to 74 and TLT fell 0.6%, trimming the rate-cut gap from Friday's 29,000-job miss. SPY sits at 772.05, just under Friday's 772.65 high and above its 21-day average at 766.12. QQQ holds +0.46% near 753, while IWM went from +1.1% pre-market to +0.13%.
The buying is concentrated: NVDA $4.9B, SPCX $4.2B, TSLA $3.6B and MSFT $3.3B traded, all higher. Storage chips run: WDC +5.9% and STX +5.8% on about $1.9B each. Large orders were flat on SPY but sold another $576M of QQQ, so big money is not leading this.
Decliners lead 5,066 to 4,299 and new lows lead highs 272 to 219, with only 30% of stocks above their 40-day average. VIX up on a green day with gold and oil lower points to rates, not fear. Oversold breadth usually bounces, but a rally carried by five stocks while large orders sell QQQ usually fades unless advancers reach half the market.
No changes since the morning session: SPCX still holds above its 164.82 buy level, and COHR and MDT are still waiting on theirs.
The rally shrugged off the bond market: TLT deepened its loss to 0.82% after the 74 services-prices print, yet SPY rose to 773.60, through Friday's 772.65 high. QQQ sits at 753.76, just under Friday's 754.54. The real change is IWM, back to +0.59% from +0.13% at 10:30 and now leading.
Energy took the most money, about $940 million, leading at +1.11% even with oil down 1.3%. SPCX is the biggest stock at $10.4 billion traded, edging NVDA at $10.2 billion, with TSLA at $7.7 billion and META up 2.0% on $4.9 billion. Large orders dissent: a net $400 million sold in SPY and $570 million in QQQ.
Breadth flipped: advancers lead 5,879 to 4,405 and new highs beat lows 349 to 293, both reversed from 10:30. With only 30% of stocks above their 40-day average, this is a bounce from oversold, the kind that usually runs more than a day. VIX at 15.51 says nobody is buying protection; the falling bond market is the risk.
Since midday: PTC edged back above its 192.47 stop; every other pick kept its status.
The rally pushed through the bond selloff for a second straight run: TLT is still down 0.75% on the services-prices print, yet SPY climbed to 775.14, now $2.49 above Friday's 772.65 high and $8.73 above its 21-day average. QQQ finally cleared Friday's 754.54 high, trading at 755.47 after sitting just under it at midday. IWM holds +0.67% at 283.42, so small caps kept the gain they found before lunch.
Energy took about $1.35 billion, up from $940 million at midday, and financials about $1.0 billion as the Brazil banks kept running, with XP +32.9% and ITUB +16.7%. NVDA reclaimed the top spot at $14.7 billion, edging SPCX at $14.5 billion, with TSLA at $10.5 billion and MSFT at $7.7 billion after its upgrade. Storage stayed bid, WDC +6.7% and STX +5.7% on about $3.7 billion each. Large orders kept selling: the net outflow in SPY grew to about $730 million from $400 million at midday, while QQQ eased to about $500 million.
Breadth kept improving: advancers lead 6,394 to 4,165 and new highs beat lows 459 to 361, both wider than at midday. With only 30% of stocks above their 40-day average, this is an oversold bounce that is gaining participants, the kind that usually runs into a second day. VIX at 15.60, up on a green day while gold and oil fall, points at rates as the risk, not a crash.
Since power hour: COHR never retook its 341.76 10:00 high and is off the breakout watch; every other name kept its status.
The rally held its breakout into the bell even as bonds kept falling: TLT closed down 0.46% after the 74 services-prices print, yet SPY finished at 774.79, $2.14 above Friday's 772.65 high and $8.36 over its 21-day average at 766.43. QQQ led at +0.87% to 756.09, holding above Friday's 754.54 high, while IWM ended +0.59% at 283.19 and the Dow lagged at +0.23%. Friday's 29,000-job report and USO down 2.2% did the lifting; the services-prices jump was the drag that bonds felt and stocks ignored.
Mega caps carried the dollars: NVDA $28.3B, SPCX $22.0B, TSLA $15.2B and MSFT $13.2B, all up between 1.5% and 7.6%. Energy took about $1.9 billion, financials about $1.5 billion on the Brazil run with XP +31.6%, and storage stayed bid with WDC +6.0% and STX +4.6% on about $4.9B each. The dissent grew into the close: large orders sold a net $2.2 billion of SPY, triple the $730 million at 2:30 PM, while QQQ large orders ended flat.
Breadth finished at the day's best: 6,591 advancers to 4,163 and 529 new highs to 336 lows, both wider than at power hour. With only 30% of stocks above their 40-day average, this is an oversold bounce that is still adding participants, the kind that usually runs into a second day. VIX at 15.56, up on a green day while GLD and USO fell, says the threat is rates, and Tuesday's 1:00 PM auction is where that shows up.
